January 18, 2004                                                                                                                                                                                                 HOLLYWOOD beauty Keira Knightley hit the chippy yesterday on a frying visit to Scotland. The Pirates of the Caribbean star braved freezing temperatures for a fashion shoot in a Glasgow cafe. And despite the bitter cold, the stunning actress happily peeled off for the glamorous pictures. She said: ''I am having a lovely time in Scotland. I love it here.'' Keira, 20, who shot to fame in soccer movie Bend It Like Beckham, rubbed her arms together to raise her body heat. She even wore a pair of thermal longjohns underneath the sexy outfits in an attempt to keep warm. The shoot took place at the Oxford Fish Restaurant in Hill Street, in the city centre. Keira arrived by limousine with her mum, Scots playwright Sharman McDonald, around midday. Sitting at the diner's window with curlers in her hair, Keira smiled and waved politely at passers by. Then the stunning star changed into agorgeous black and white netted gown. Our exclusive pictures show her laughing as she tucked into a bag of salty, greasy chips. She also posed in an elegant white dress. After the shoot, Keira and Sharman went shopping. Her mum said: ''We plan to have a great day.'' The pair then left to have lunch in Princes Square and were later spotted in a string of designer stores. It is thought Keira will be in Scotland for a few weeks to film George Clooney's £20 million blockbuster The Jacket at Bangour hospital near Livingston.

January 7, 2004                                                                                                                                                                                                                Looking slender and brunette, Knightley changes her appearance constantly. During her time in Tokyo, she got a surprise visit from Seattle Mariners closer Kazuhiro Sasaki, who admitted to being a big fan of Knightley's — in roles where she is blonde, that is. "He must have seen me in 'Pirates,'" she quipped. Born in London, Knightley trained as a dancer when she was a child. Both her parents worked in theater, so it was inevitable she would end up in showbiz. She started out in school and youth club productions before making her film debut in 1994 in the drama "A Village Affair." She followed that up with some made-for-TV features and got her first big break when George Lucas picked her to play the decoy Queen Amidala in "Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace." Because of her startling resemblance to Natalie Portman, who plays the queen, many fans and Knightley's own mother couldn't tell the difference, she said. "I've been very lucky, really. I've only had a short career, but already I have played so many different roles and worked with so many talented people. Even more gratifying is being able to make people happy when they go to see a film. I got a real kick out of seeing audiences laugh at 'Love Actually.'"

January 6, 2004                                                                                                                                                                                                                      "I'm sure you already know about the Hello! Magazine polls going on for Most Elegant Women, etc. Well, Keira is of course practically in the lead for the Most Beautiful Women category."

According to Walt Disney Pictures, the film sold 11 million units since its Dec. 2 release VHS and DVD -- a new home video record for a live-action film. A sequel of the film is in the works for a 2005 release.

December 10, 2003                                                                                                                                                                                                           Coming Attractions at Cinescape has possible word on the subtitle for Pirates of the Caribbean 2, which in turn gives us possible word on the sequel's story. An anonymous scooper contacted us today with what they claim might be the working title for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2. "I work for [removed] from Fantasy II F/X in Burbank, Ca," writes our tipster. "I can't give you my name. I can tell you this, I just saw some composite artwork for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: TREASURES OF THE LOST ABYSS I'm not sure if that's just the working title or not." Their source says the 'Abyss' in the title refers to the first pirate ship that sailed in the Caribbean. So will the gang be on the hunt for this treasure, or perhaps they will have to keep other pirates from getting it? Stay tuned!

December 6, 2003                                                                                                                                                                                                               British actress Keira Knightley has topped a magazine poll as this year's top breakout movie star. The 18-year-old beauty first came to the attention of international audiences in the sleeper hit Bend It Like Beckham and continued to wow her fans with roles in summer blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean and Love Actually. She has now just finished playing warrior Guinevere in the upcoming movie King Arthur, which is expected to expand her fan base even more. Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheier, who chose Knightley for both Pirates of the Caribbean and King Arthur, says, "She can act. With Keira, you don't see the wheels turning." Bruckheimer's sentiments have been echoed by Entertainment Weekly, which has named Knightley the top breakout star of 2003.

November 6, 2003                                                                                                                                                                                                               News that Keira Knightly is up for a gender-bending role in forthcoming movie Soldier Girl has come as no surprise to her friends. The 18-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean beauty seems perfect for the role of a young woman who disguises herself as a boy during the American Civil War. 'Kiera was always a bit of a tomboy when she was younger,' reveals a family friend. 'She was into Action Man more than Barbie and always wanted to hang out with the boys rather then the other girls at school. It wasn't until she was 14 or 15 that she really started to get all girly. I'm sure she'll find playing a man easy.'

November 4, 2003                                                                                                                                                                                                        According to Teletext, Keira Knightley may appear as a young woman who disguises herself as a boy in the Civil War film, Soldier Girl. Writer/director Catherine Hardwicke said, "Keira read it and we're hoping she'll appear if she finishes all her other projects. It's a true story of a girl who disguised herself as a man for two years to fight in the war for a cause she believed in."

October 21, 2003                                                                                                                                                                                                               Pirates, which grossed $300 million in domestic box office, may earn a distinction that's even more uncommon: back-to-back sequels shot in one simultaneous production. Recent successes which have followed the same format are Warner Bros.' "Matrix" sequels and New Line's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Sources close to the film say the producers are pondering the possibility of back-to-back sequels, and talks have begun to secure the cast should Disney pursue that avenue. Returning for at least one sequel are producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Gore Verbinski, writers Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott (who haven't completed the script), and talent Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. No start date has been set yet.

October 17, 2003                                                                                                                                                                                                               Empire Movies has posted 23 pages of new photos from Touchstone Pictures' forthcoming epic King Arthur! The de-mythified take on the Arthurian legend stars Clive Owen as the title character, Keira Knightley as Guinevere, Ioan Gruffudd as Lancelot, and Stephen Dillane as Merlin. The gallery of photos now online show the grimy, Dark Age feel the filmmakers have gone for rather than the oft-employed lush, medieval look. King Arthur's historically-based approach has rankled many fans who prefer the legend over the supposed reality. In other words, they can't get past Excalibur. Of course, the more important question about King Arthur is why they'd cast Keira Knightley if they only wanted her to look so hideous? King Arthur opens Christmas 2004.

October 17, 2003                                                                                                                                                                                                                    We never thought we'd see the day when we were scared of Keira Knightley but, after seeing the King Arthur set pics scored by (the utterly unrelated to us) Empire Movies, she's frankly put us a bit on edge. Going back to her Celtic roots as Arthur's bride, Guinevere, Knightley appears decked out in war paint and a barely sufficient leather 'nipple strap', weilding a bow and generally spoiling for a fight. Frankly, she looks mental and it's made us doubly interested to see exactly what Antoine Fuqua's epic will shape up to be. [See gallery for pictures]
